THE MISSIONS OF BATISSEURS REUNIS
VOLUNTEERING MISSIONS
BATISSEURS REUNIS organizes every year unique volunteering missions, bringing together participants from various backgrounds and countries to actively engage in projects serving communities. These missions offer much more than simple assistance: they are an opportunity to fully commit to concrete actions, contribute to social and educational development, and leave a positive impact on the lives of beneficiaries.
Participating in these missions allows not only to experience a rewarding human adventure, but also to encourage cultural exchange, sharing of experiences, and mutual learning. Volunteers explore the country in depth, discover its culture, traditions, and landscapes, while developing their network and their personal and professional skills. These missions are therefore both a human adventure and a way to contribute to collective well-being, while creating lasting connections and unforgettable memories.
Sociocultural and Educational Activities
Children are undeniably the leaders of tomorrow, and a well-trained, well-educated child undoubtedly guarantees a better world. Unfortunately, some children are disadvantaged and do not benefit from the same living conditions as children from wealthier families. This socio-cultural and educational project therefore aims to organize and engage children for their personal and social development. This project, without a doubt, significantly impacts the lives of children by fostering teamwork, the desire to socialize, public speaking skills, knowledge acquisition, etc.
The project includes several activities, notably:
- sports activities, recreational activities,
- quiz and question-and-answer games,
- song creation, skits,
- reading and riddles,
- music, dance, recitals,
- excursions, etc.
The project generally takes place in rural areas where most children are disadvantaged. Volunteers can participate in this mission, which takes place throughout the year, and no specific qualification is required. The presence of volunteers with the children provides a new social environment and allows them to step out of their daily routine for a while. Volunteers will work alongside local staff to facilitate activities and share knowledge from their own backgrounds.
Teaching
Education in Togo is based on the French system. English is taught starting from middle school, and recently the government introduced English education at the primary level. German, on the other hand, is taught in high school for students in the literary track. Volunteers who want to travel differently and be useful by bringing their skills to local communities are highly encouraged to support and assist teachers at the primary or secondary level. Volunteers will have the opportunity to share their experiences, their expertise, and also learn from others.
The tasks include:
- Preparing lesson plans and teaching classes,
- Conducting assessments and giving exercises,
- Correcting assignments and checking notebooks, etc.,
- Participating in meetings
Regarding secondary education, volunteers have the opportunity to choose the subjects that match their skills, such as sports, English, German, physics-chemistry, maths, geography, accounting, etc.
Health
Togo has several health centers such as university hospital centers, regional hospital centers (CHR), medical-social centers, peripheral care units, and laboratories, thus offering an ideal environment for volunteer missions and internships. This mission is intended for volunteers who have medical skills or who are in training. Volunteers can work in the fields of nursing, general medicine, midwifery, radiology, ophthalmology, mental health, laboratory work, etc.
During the mission, the volunteer will be assigned to our health center LESEUL or to a public or private hospital to assist healthcare personnel and work alongside them. They will carry out several tasks depending on the selected field, but the most common ones include consultations, blood pressure checks, temperature monitoring, vaccinations, etc.
Animal Protection and Veterinary Mission
This mission focuses on the protection and care of domestic and farm animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, cats, dogs, etc. It is an important mission in which volunteers with knowledge in animal protection and care can participate to support local communities. The locals truly need assistance and opportunities to share experiences related to livestock management and animal welfare. The need in the field is significant: animals are generally left to roam freely in search of shelter and food.
In this situation, they receive no care and often die from illness; they are beaten, injured, run over by vehicles or motorcycles, or bitten by snakes. Only cattle are accompanied by herdsmen, but even then, maintenance and treatment remain insufficient. As for pets such as dogs, they are poorly trained, lack proper shelters, and most are not vaccinated.
During this mission, the volunteer will assist a veterinarian through several activities, including:
- Maintaining and treating injured or sick animals,
- Ensuring the cleanliness of existing enclosures,
- Preparing and distributing food rations,
- Vaccinating animals,
- Raising awareness among farmers and the population about animal protection.
Ecovolunteering for Bee Protection
Ecovolunteering involves supporting local organizations in the protection and conservation of animal and plant species. In this specific case, it focuses on the protection of bees, which play a crucial role for humans. Their stings are nothing compared to their benefits. They are essential pollinators that promote the reproduction of plant species and fruits, and as such, they contribute significantly to biodiversity conservation, food production, and honey supply for humans. Despite these valuable advantages, they are unfortunately threatened by bushfires and human activities.
To protect them, several tasks will be carried out during the mission:
- Tree planting and creation of flowered areas,
- Creating water points and preparing beeswax,
- Maintaining and placing hives in the wild,
- Extracting the surplus honey accumulated by the bees,
- Maintaining extractors and smokers,
- Filtering the honey and bottling it,
- Checking for the presence of the queen and protecting her,
- Eliminating predatory insects,
Participation Requirements
Anyone aged 18 and over can participate, regardless of gender, nationality, or political/religious beliefs, and must be willing to work in groups in rural or urban environments. Knowledge of French is an asset, but other languages are accepted.
Participation fees cover:
- Round-trip transport from the airport to the mission site
- Accommodation
- Food and miscellaneous expenses
Favorable Conditions for the Stay
The Togolese people are warm and welcoming. The association ensures a supportive environment for each participant. Safety is guaranteed and travel is unrestricted. Recreational evenings and tourist excursions are organized at the end of each activity. Malaria prevention measures are implemented in collaboration with an on-site doctor.
